As I ponder the lyrics of the song “I Surrender All,” I see how incredibly hard it is to give up control of everything. I have struggled in this area. Sometimes, I leave all at the Master’s feet. At other times, I stretch out my hands to hold on even when I shouldn’t. Yet, in His gentleness God forgives my foolishness.
Bible Reading: Jeremiah 18:1-6
How on earth do I think I can handle my life problems? Today I declare with every fiber of my being a new song for my Maker.
I am the Clay and God is my Potter.
Dear Loving Potter, you can have all of “this clay.”
Mold it as it deems fit for your use
Useful in Your Hand
The Glory, yours forever and ever.
I don’t know what aspect of life you are hiding away from the Lord, but I assure you He knows anyway. Jesus is waiting for you to hand that situation over to Him. I have always thought it would be good if we sang “I Surrender All” everyday.
It would remind us daily to let Jesus carry our cross while we focus on His. As we simply follow every step, surrender becomes the life we live. Surrender includes the hard things, difficult people and rugged places, the issues we want to solve on our own, the life we want to lead, the secrets we want to hide, the instructions we toss under and everything else.
Clearly, this life of surrender is not something we can do on our own. We want to make our choices and do our own thing. It is our right to choose. Yet God nudges us to choose wisely (Deuteronomy 30:19). As the Lord gave Moses instructions, we notice several portions where He says, “…they shall perform these instructions given in the place the Lord shall choose.”
When God leads the way, He chooses and we follow.
If we must serve the Lord, we do it in the way He has chosen for us. It is not the other way around. Here is Joshua making that choice in Joshua 24:15; openly declaring his stand for God.
What man is he that feareth the Lord? Him shall he teach in the way that He shall choose. Psalm 25:12
Our surrender is rooted in our reverence for the Lord.
As the Lord works through us and in us, He helps us to live the life He has designed for our lives. Though we may not understand it, we trust that He certainly will bring us through victoriously.
